Message From The Chair

Welcome to Winchester District Memorial Hospital.

This web site has been developed to answer some of the questions you and your family may have about your community hospital  We welcome your comments so that we can continue to improve.

Winchester District Memorial Hospital was built by the citizens of Winchester and surrounding communities to honour the men and women who served in World War II. The communities conceived the plan, raised the funds and the Hospital opened in 1948 amid great fanfare. Since that time our facility has provided quality health care to hundreds of thousands of patients. Winchester District Memorial Hospital has a long and proud tradition of providing skilled and caring services to our communities.

The hospital board's recent strategic plan focused on providing core services, including:

  • Full, 24-hour emergency service
  • Family Practice Medicine
  • General surgery and anaesthesia
  • Obstetrics (Maternal Child Care)
  • Diagnostic Imaging; Laboratory
  • Inpatient allied Health Services - physiotherapy, clinical nutrition, pharmacy and many others
  • Complex Continuing Care / Rehabilitation

Together with our communities, we are once again building for the future and ensuring that excellent care continues to be available close to home.

In May 2007, Winchester District Memorial Hospital received approval to go to tender on the redevelopment and expansion project which began in the fall and will conclude in 2009 with a state-of-the-art facility designed to meet the changing needs of our growing communities' health care requirements. We are committed to keeping faith with the past that built this hospital, and in delivering to you the best possible health care experience that we can.

Peter Sorby, Chairman
Winchester District Memorial Hospital

Message From The CEO

The Winchester District Memorial Hospital has always and will always provide the best care and service to the communities it serves.  This simple fact is the basis for all decisions, from the development of strategic plans to the building of buildings, the selection of equipment and technology decisions and the recruitment of professional and support staffs and volunteers.   The hospital continues to play an important role within the region as it partners with many organizations to bring “care close to our rural communities”.

We partner with many colleges and universities and invite students from all professions to our hospital and doctor’s offices so that we can offer an experience that demonstrates the joys of practicing their professions within rural communities.

Trudy Reid, CEO
Winchester District Memorial Hospital
