Coronavirus Update

Keeping Everyone Safe

WDMH may look a little different – but our commitment to caring for you hasn’t changed!  A few things have changed due to COVID-19. Everyone is now screened at the door. All staff and physicians are wearing masks. And we have increased the number of hand sanitizing stations throughout the hospital. We want our patients to feel safe when they come to WDMH – and we have taken every precaution to ensure that.

Visitor guidelines have changed. Learn more about the current guidelines.

Getting the Vaccine

Vaccines are safe, effective, and the best way to protect you and those around you from serious illnesses like COVID-19. Learn more about Ontario's vaccination program here: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/covid-19-vaccines-ontario

Feeling Ill?

  • If you think you may have Coronavirus symptoms, please call Telehealth Ontario (1-866-797-0000), the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (1-800-267-7120), or your family physician. You may also schedule an appointment at the COVID-19 Assessment Centre in Winchester. Symptoms may include fever, pneumonia, “any new or worsening symptom” such as cough or shortness of breath, sore throat, runny nose, sneezing, or nasal congestion, hoarse voice, difficulty swallowing, new smell or taste disorders, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or abdominal pain.

  • The Ministry of Health has an online Coronavirus assessment tool that provides helpful information. It is easy to use. By answering a few questions, you will be able to make informed choices about what to do based on your needs.

  • If you have a medical emergency, please call 9-1-1.

Coming to WDMH

  • At all entrances, screening will take place and temperatures will be taken.

  • The Emergency Department is open if you have an emergency. We have precautions in place to keep everyone safe.

  • Some perioperative patients will be required to have a COVID test prior to their surgery date. If you require a COVID test, you will be given a scheduled date and time by the hospital.

  • Inpatients will be provided with procedure masks to wear when a healthcare professional is providing care. All outpatients must wear a mask for the duration of their visit.

  • WDMH recognizes that it is difficult to be apart from family members who are in the hospital. Unfortunately, we are only able to accept essential items at this time. Items must be 'wipeable' to support stringent infection control practices to keep everyone safe. Essential items include: glasses, hearing aids, dentures, medications, shoes for rehabilitation, clothes on day of discharge  (not earlier), communication devices such as iPads or tablets (that staff can wipe down).  Please place items in a plastic bag and clearly label the package.

  • Floral deliveries will be accepted at the Main Lobby desk or ER screening desk, depending on the delivery time and day of the week. The flowers will be picked up and delivered to the patient.
