Severe Heat and Humidity Advisory Issued by the Eastern Ontario Health Unit

The Winchester District Memorial Hospital (WDMH) redevelopment project is almost complete and one of the last steps is the exterior landscaping. WDMH was pleased to see the landscaping contract awarded to NAT-CAP Construction, right here in Winchester.

The Board of Directors is pleased to present the annual report to the communities served by the Winchester District Memorial Hospital.

The health care system continues to evolve at both the provincial and regional levels.  At the provincial level, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is focusing on the development of the health system to provide Ontarians with a broader range of services close to home. The Ministry also continues to focus on cost effectiveness as a strategy to ensure the system’s sustainability for future generations.  New provincial legislation, such as The Excellent Care for All Act, 2010 ((http://www.ontla.ca) signals the next evolution of a performance-based system focused on quality outcomes for Ontario citizens. 
 

If it’s springtime in Winchester, it must be time for the arrival of medical students at Winchester District Memorial Hospital (WDMH) – eager to learn and to experience the unique opportunities of rural medicine.

Winchester District Memorial Hospital is partnering with Ottawa City Councillor Doug Thompson to host an ‘Osgoode Ward Open House’ on Sunday, October 18.  The purpose of the event is to show the new Winchester District Memorial Hospital to neighbours in the Osgoode Ward area.

The new Chemotherapy Home Infusion Pump Program (CHIPP) at Winchester District Memorial Hospital (WDMH) is bringing additional chemotherapy treatments closer to home for local residents.  In fact, it’s bringing treatments right to their homes.

The Chairman of the Board of the Winchester District Memorial Hospital reported at the Annual General Meeting on June 24, 2008, that the Hospital Board has respectfully declined a Directive, from the Local Health Integration Network, to sign the 2008-09 Accountability Agreement.

The week of May 20th at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital saw the arrival of seven first year medical students from Queen’s University: Daniel Abramowitz, Maurice Ennis, Allen Greenwald, Meiqi Guo, Brenda Law, Michael Surkont, Yong-Li Zhang and two from the University of Ottawa Taryn Hodgdon and Hatem Salim, who participated in the ERMEP Week in the Country Program. The goal of the Eastern Regional Medical Education Program (ERMEP) is to give an opportunity to medical students to experience the practice of medicine in a rural setting.

The Corporation of the Winchester District Memorial Hospital will be holding its Annual General Meeting for the purpose of receiving the Annual Report of the Board of Directors and officials of the Hospital, the election of Directors, and for the transaction of such other business as may properly come before the meeting. The By-Laws of the Winchester District Memorial Hospital provide that the Board of Directors shall include the election of Directors by members of the Hospital Corporation.

Winchester District Memorial Hospital (WDMH) is here for you! We are committed to providing the very best care in a comforting environment. WDMH has completed an extensive strategic planning exercise to determine the range of services that it could provide based on our population and its needs, as well as our regional services plan. We want to meet the needs of our communities, now and into the future.

In the coming weeks visitors to Winchester District Memorial Hospital may experience difficulty with parking. Over the course of the next three weeks our construction crew will be forced to temporarily close down parking lots in order to complete necessary site work including curbs, sidewalks and lighting installation, and completion of paving and line painting.

The Board and Senior Management at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital would like to offer best wishes to the nursing staff in honour of “National Nursing Week”. The many events that are planned during this week celebrate the professionals who give so much to our patients and communities.
