WDMH Annual Report 2009-2010 - Wednesday, June 30, 2010

The Board of Directors is pleased to present the annual report to the communities served by the Winchester District Memorial Hospital.

The health care system continues to evolve at both the provincial and regional levels.  At the provincial level, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is focusing on the development of the health system to provide Ontarians with a broader range of services close to home. The Ministry also continues to focus on cost effectiveness as a strategy to ensure the system’s sustainability for future generations.  New provincial legislation, such as The Excellent Care for All Act, 2010 ((http://www.ontla.ca) signals the next evolution of a performance-based system focused on quality outcomes for Ontario citizens.

The week of May 20th at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital saw the arrival of seven first year medical students from Queen’s University: Daniel Abramowitz, Maurice Ennis, Allen Greenwald, Meiqi Guo, Brenda Law, Michael Surkont, Yong-Li Zhang and two from the University of Ottawa Taryn Hodgdon and Hatem Salim, who participated in the ERMEP Week in the Country Program. The goal of the Eastern Regional Medical Education Program (ERMEP) is to give an opportunity to medical students to experience the practice of medicine in a rural setting.

Over the course of the next three weeks our construction crew will be forced to temporarily close down parking lots in order to complete necessary site work including curbs, sidewalks and lighting installation, and completion of paving and line painting.
